My Big Night Out

Last night I somehow got to go to the President’s Dinner at the Convention Center and it was AMAZING! I wasn’t supposed to attend, but somebody backed out at the last minute and I got a ticket. The room it was held in was literally larger than a football field and there must have been over 5,000 people in there. But, the table I was lucky enough to be seated at was right in the middle, 1 row back from the stage where the President spoke. I was only about 30 feet away! Apparently if you have an extra $28,000 lying around to donate to the NRSC you can purchase a prime table like this. I, personally, can think of about a million better things to do with $28,000… but whatever floats your boat. At least I benefitted from it.

The dinner was so fancy that the butter pats were even cut into the shape of the President’s seal! Can you believe that? And the meal was fantastic! It was really good salad with goat cheese, braised short ribs and roasted vegetables, and an assortment of cute little bite-sized desserts. It was a little awkward, though, because I was about 10 years younger than everybody else at the table… at least. And I also feel awkward at fancy dinners because I don’t really know what to do with all that silverware and plates and glasses. The entire time I was nervous that I was using somebody else’s bread plate or drinking out of the wrong glass. I usually make do by carefully watching everybody else and then just copying them.

Anyways, right before dinner they announced the President and he gave a little speech- very partisan of course. All about how there’s no doubt John McCain will be the next President (yeah right) and how the Republicans are going to take back both houses of Congress (this one doesn’t even stand a chance). But all in all, the evening was really fun and quite an experience for me. I only wish Brandon could have gone with me. P.S. These pictures were taken from my seat!!
