I've developed this itchy skin rash over the past few days. I googled itchy skin and pregnancy and have diagnosed myself with 'pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy,' also known as PUPPP. I really don't think the name could be any longer but I'm convinced that this is what I've got. It apparently shows up in the third trimester and is characterized by itchy, red bumps and a hive-like rash on your belly. It's also already spread to my thighs, chest and arms. It says that only 1% of pregnant women get it, but that it's more common in women carrying twins and women having their first baby (check and check).
Darn!! I feel like I've got the chicken pox! The article says it's harmless for the babies but that it itches like crazy... it sure does!! I've been taking oatmeal baths for the past couple of days and then slathering on oatmeal lotion. This seems to help the itching, at least temporarily. Tomorrow, I have a doctor appointment so I'm going to ask her to prescribe some safe anti-itch medicine. I can hardly wait for some relief!
Well, in the meantime, I'm off for another soak in the oatmeal bath... which looks like dirty dishwater by the way. Gross!!
